Avian
Elites does not breed the Vosmaeri
Eclectus (Eclectus roratus vosmaeri)
- they are by nature more aggressive,
pluckers, and have a very high-pitched
loud scream. If you are interested in a
Vos baby, please
email us and we will get you in
touch with a knowledgeable aviculturist
that breeds the pure Vos sub-species.
Biak Island Eclectus (Eclectus
roratus biaki)
Extremely rare in US
aviculture! When brought
into the U.S. back in 1992
there were only 13 total,
now there is one other
breeder that has bred a boy
and here at Avian Elites,
we have bred a couple of
pairs and have received
excellent results with a few
clutches of healthy males
and females. Originally
thought to be members of the
Solomon Island grouping,
these birds have definitely
more Red-sided coloring and
now are considered to be of
the Red-sided grouping.
Their colors are brilliant
compared to even the
Polychloros. Found on the
small island of Biak, and
only recently given true
sub-species status, these
birds possess unique
qualities beyond their
coloring. Extremely
intelligent, excellent
talkers, and, if handfed,
extremely friendly. Length-

Solomon Island
Eclectus (Eclectus roratus
solomonensis)
Probably the best known eclectus in this
county. These birds are extremely docile
and friendly compared to their other
subspecies relatives. Smaller than most
red-sided groups, the females are known
to possess a deeper more pronounced blue
eye ring. The green feathers of the male
have a yellow tinge throughout them and
their beaks are lighter orange in color
with a yellow tip. Solomon Island
Eclectus are excellent talkers and make
very friendly additions to most quiet
peaceful family environments.

New Guinea Eclectus (Eclectus roratus
polychloros), aka the Redsided
Eclectus Parrot
Native to New Guinea, these birds are
reputed to be among the friendliest and
best talkers of the Eclectus grouping.
The females with their blue eye-rings
and blue chest feathers contrast
attractively with their brilliant red
head and neck bib. The males are a
brilliant forest green with candy corn
beak and brilliant underwing to chest
red (thus the name red-sided). These
birds are excellent talking, companion
birds. They are playful, intelligent,
and curious. Usually quiet, they seem to
study most situations and people before
getting involved or communicating.
Rivaling the Congo African Grey Parrot
in talking ability, the sundown Eclectus
Chant is a pleasure only comparable to
the evening sunset. Length-34-37CM 13

Aru Island
Eclectus (Eclectus roratus aruensis)
Rare in US aviculture, this Subspecies
of Eclectus is among the red-side, blue
eye ring type of Eclectus Parrots. The
males are larger and extremely friendly.
The females are among the largest of the
red-sided types, second only to the
McGillivray AKA Australian Eclectus.
Like most females, these birds are
extremely cautious and stand-offish, but
once they have decided to bond with you
in their flock they are extremely loyal
and very friendly. Length- 37cm 14 1/2
inches Weight 425-640gm Eyes- Males-
Bright Reddish orange Females- Creamy

Known as the best talkers of the Parrot
world, these grey birds with red tails
seem to be one owner or people pets.
Whether Grey or Silverback, whether
large (Cameroon) or small (Ghana), all
varieties are quiet birds, making a
variety or cooing and melodic sounds. If
you've had a Congo in your house the
moment he or she is gone there will be
an absolute "still" to your house. While
most Congos seem to have an opposite sex
preference to their pet owners, they
seem to definitely have a preference to
one person in the home. Length- 31- 37cm

than the Congo. Length- 31-32cm

Blue
Quaker Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus)
Small, Inquisitive Parrots.
Intelligent Good Talkers and
Friendly. Quakers are little
clowns. Making Excellent
Companions and Pets. Females
seem to be more Gentle and
more Shy as were the males
are more Talkative and
Territorial, but both seem
to adjust to human contact
with time, care and
attention. Most are in fact
drawn to humans, may be just
by inborn curiosity.
